Dental Crowns in The Woodlands, TX

The Creekside Park Difference

Fellowship-Trained Expertise. Both Dr. Chris and Dr. Angela hold Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). It’s a distinction earned by fewer than 7% of dentists nationwide. This means they’ve completed over 500 hours of continuing education beyond dental school and passed a rigorous exam.

Husband-and-Wife Team. Two dentists collaborating on your care means better results. They bring different perspectives, share a commitment to excellence, and genuinely enjoy caring for their patients.

Same-Day Crowns with CEREC. Using advanced CAD/CAM technology, we design, mill, and place your permanent crown in a single appointment. No temporary, no second visit, and no weeks of waiting.

Conservative, Patient-Centered Care. You’ll never feel pressured into unnecessary treatment. Our patients consistently tell us that no one was trying to sell them anything, but that they genuinely cared about their health.

When Is a Crown the Right Choice?

Think of a crown as a custom-made “helmet” for your tooth. It fully encases the visible portion, protecting what’s underneath while restoring the tooth’s natural shape and function. We typically recommend crowns for:

  • Teeth with large fillings that are at risk of fracturing
  • Cracked or weakened teeth that need reinforcement
  • After root canal therapy, since root canal-treated teeth become more brittle over time
  • Severely worn-down teeth from grinding, acid erosion, or age
  • Covering a dental implant to complete the restoration
  • Cosmetic enhancement for a tooth that’s severely discolored or misshapen

The goal is always to preserve your natural tooth whenever possible. We’ll give you back a smile that feels strong, functions properly, and looks completely natural.

Same-Day Crowns with CEREC: What to Expect

We remember what crowns used to be like. The process involved messy, goopy impressions that made you gag. You had to wear a fragile, temporary crown that sometimes popped off at the worst possible moment. Finally, you endured two to three weeks of waiting, all while hoping the permanent crown would fit properly.

That’s why we invested in CEREC technology. Here’s what your experience will actually look like.

Step 1: Consultation & Digital X-rays

We start by listening. Dr. Chris or Dr. Angela will examine your tooth, take a digital X-ray, and discuss your concerns. Do you have sensitivity? Are you worried about the appearance? We want to understand the full picture before any treatment begins.

Step 2: Precise Preparation

The tooth is gently shaped to make room for your crown. This sounds more intimidating than it is. Most patients compare it to a routine filling. We use plenty of numbing and work at a pace that keeps you comfortable.

Step 3: Digital Impressions (No Messy Putty!)

Instead of that tray full of impression goop, we use a small wand to scan your tooth. It takes about 60 seconds, and it’s completely comfortable. The digital scan is accurate to within 25 microns, far more precise than traditional impressions.

Step 4: Design & Fabrication

While you relax, Dr. Anton designs your crown on a screen. We choose a shade that perfectly matches your natural teeth. Then, a block of high-strength ceramic is milled right in our office. The whole process takes about 60 to 90 minutes.

Step 5: Perfect Fit & Placement

We check the fit, make any micro-adjustments, and bond your new crown into place. You leave with a fully restored tooth the same day you visited for an exam.

Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

  • One and done: Most crowns are completed in a single appointment. Show up with a damaged tooth, leave with it restored.
  • No temporary crowns: Temporaries can be uncomfortable, prone to falling off, and frankly, they don’t look great. With same-day crowns, you skip them entirely.
  • Natural appearance: Our ceramic crowns are metal-free and translucent, just like natural enamel. They blend in so well that most people won’t know which tooth is crowned.
  • Strength that lasts: These aren’t the fragile crowns of decades past. Modern ceramics are incredibly durable.
  • Preserves more of your natural tooth: We use high-strength materials and digital precision. We can preserve more of your natural tooth structure than traditional methods.
  • No messy impressions: Digital scanning eliminates the gag-inducing putty trays.

Types of Dental Crown Materials

Not all crowns are created equal. The material you choose affects the crown’s appearance, durability, and longevity:

  • Porcelain (e.max / Lithium Disilicate) crowns are the top choice for front teeth because they offer excellent translucency and superior color matching. These crowns reflect light just like natural enamel, making them virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding teeth.
  • Zirconia crowns are ideal for back molars or patients who grind their teeth. This material is highly fracture-resistant, metal-free, and biocompatible. Zirconia crowns have improved translucency in recent years, making them suitable for both front and back teeth. They are among the most durable options available.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns combine a metal base for strength with a porcelain coating for aesthetics. While durable (10 to 15 years), the metal base can sometimes show as a dark line at the gumline over time, especially if your gums recede. These are typically reserved for back teeth, where appearance is less critical.
  • Gold or metal alloy crowns are the most durable option, often lasting 20 years or more. They require less removal of your natural tooth structure and resist chipping or cracking exceptionally well. However, they are very noticeable, so they are recommended only for back molars where aesthetics are not a concern.

For front teeth, Dr. Chris and Dr. Angela typically recommend porcelain or zirconia. For back molars where chewing forces are strongest, zirconia or gold may be better options. During your consultation, they will explain the pros and cons of each material and help you make the best choice for your smile and your budget.

Which crown is right for you? Dr. Chris or Dr. Angela will help you choose based on the tooth’s location, your bite force, and your aesthetic goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does getting a crown hurt?

We numb the area thoroughly before starting, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure. Some patients report mild soreness afterward, similar to a filling, but it typically resolves within a day or two.

How long do dental crowns last?

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, porcelain crowns commonly last 10 to 15 years, while zirconia crowns can last 15 to 20 years or longer. We use high-quality materials and precise fitting to maximize longevity.

Will my crown look natural?

Absolutely. This is where experience matters. Dr. Chris and Dr. Angela are both Fellows in the Academy of General Dentistry. It’s a designation that requires hundreds of hours of advanced training in restorative techniques. They understand how to match shape, contour, and translucency so that your crown blends seamlessly with your smile.

Are same-day crowns as strong as traditional crowns?

Yes. CEREC crowns are milled from high-strength ceramic blocks (such as zirconia or lithium disilicate) that are just as durable as lab-fabricated crowns. In fact, zirconia crowns are known for their exceptional fracture resistance, especially for back teeth.

Can you fix a crown that’s come loose or fallen out?

Yes. If you have an existing crown that’s loose or has fallen out, call us right away. In many cases, we can recement it. If the tooth underneath has decayed, we may need to discuss a new crown.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

Root canal-treated teeth become more brittle over time and are prone to fracture. A crown protects the tooth and restores its strength, allowing you to chew normally without worrying about cracking it.

What’s the difference between a crown and a filling?

A filling repairs a small cavity within the tooth. A crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth. It provides strength and protection for teeth that are too damaged for a simple filling.
